The Central Government has taken a significant step towards ensuring immediate medical care for road accident victims by launching the ‘Cashless Treatment Scheme.’ Announced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, the scheme will provide financial coverage for medical expenses incurred by accident victims, up to a maximum of Rs. 1.5 lakh or for a period of seven days.
This initiative will come into effect from April 2025 and is expected to play a vital role in saving lives by ensuring timely and hassle-free medical care. The scheme was tested through a pilot programme in Assam, Punjab, Haryana, and Puducherry, with encouraging results.
The National Health Authority (NHA) will oversee the implementation of the scheme, working in coordination with police departments, hospitals, and State Health Agencies.
